Ciras Questions

So I don't know very much about gear and I would like a bit of first hand opinion please. I currently own a Tactical Tailor Mav 2, its a great harness. Its comfortable, lights and I have great mobility in it. It does however lack real estate. I never seem to have enough room to carry my mags and other necessities. So I end up bringing the mags and leaving the other stuff behind. The Ciras seems to be a good choice. So are there any other types of riggs that you guys would suggest? What is the differance between land and marine ciras? And seeing as an Eagle Ciras is $600 plus what is the best quality brand after that?

Thanks

Brand: Pantac of Flyye.

Other choices: pretty much any carrier with cummerbunds... or get a first line (MOLLE belt), depending what you need to carry.

Suggestion for real estate: use stackable shingles. Shoot less? With two double mag pouches, I get 8 mags which is often too much... but that's what I run on my DA rig. I also have a RRV with 1 double + 1 single mag pouches and an H-Harness with 1 double for an even lighter recon/greenside rig.

If you want it in CB (i.e., you actually care) go with PANTAC: Flyye's color is way off.

I have to ask though, what "other stuff" are you leaving behind?

Filling more real estate with more pouches isn't always the best option unless you like bopping around the field like the Michelin Man. You should have your main mags (8-12 if its low/realcaps), sidearm mags (1-8 depending), radio pouch, hydration (on your back), dump pouch (belt)... what else? Are you using a MOLLE holster? 40mm shells?

Don't carry too much useless crap on you, it's not like you're gonna be humping 30 klicks. Just stick it in an assault pack and take a 5 minute walk back to base/respawn/whatever if/when you need it.

For example, last Saturday at the Mill I had two of my mag pouches filled with M4 mags, the other had three pistol mags. I want to buy actuall pistol mag pouches but there is no place to put them without taking off an M4 pouch. That leaves my two utility pouches on either side. One has a loader and spare bb's the other death rag, and the case for my mouthguard. I have no place for a radio pouch without removing one of the pouches already there. a place to put 40mm would be nice as I do have a 203 but I notice some guys carry a whole propane tank for there gbb. Anyways with the Mav I have to put everything around my waist, a Ciras would allow me to have M4mags on my chest/stomach, pistol mags on my side, a radio pouch etc. Maybe what I am really after is the ability to carry more.

As you can see the Mav doesn't offer alot of carrying space.

Utility pouches can/should go. Deadman Rag can go in your BDU leg pocket, or even pants pocket; mouth guard... would be more useful in your mouth? :D

Seriously though, those utility pouches are guzzling space for nothing. I'd put 3x double mag pouches (6 mags) on my weak [reloading] side, a triple mag shingle (3x1 mags) with MOLLE on the shooting side, pistol mags mounted on the shingle, radio can go on the far left to keep it out of the way and if you really want to you can stick one of the utilities on the far right (if you're loading mags, it's not something you'll be doing in the heat of battle like a reload). Milsim games don't usually allow you to reload mags on the field either (or any game with mag/ammo limits, really), so that stuff would usually stay in a pack at the base/respawn.

example of a triple mag shingle:

Hmmm good points Drake. Are there any Canadian retailer who carry the real Ciras for competative prces?
