Another P226 Issue (AKA don't buy clone guns)
 

Hello again, hope you're not all sick of me and my gun troubles yet. The slide of my P226 is getting stuck in the fully rearward position due to some metal tangs getting caught on the hammer. Has anyone else had a problem like this with a P226, and is there any way to fix it? It doesn't happen after every shot, it seems to be pretty much random.

What brand of P226 is it?

What gas have you been using to power it?

Is the gun stock or have you upgraded it?

It's that new Skeleton Sidearms one, stock, running propane because it says to use it and I assume duster would have trouble with the metal slide anyways.

It got stuck like that without being shot too, I pulled back the slide to lock it with the catch and the hammer caught something inside. I'll upload a picture of the bit inside the slide that's catching the hammer tomorrow.

I almost bought one of those too. Almost. Happened to find a guy with a TM in good shape for sale and bought it instead. And am sooooo much happier because of it. The fit of the slide and parts is better, and the grips dont fall off on their own.

Haven't had any problems like that. Bit of slide wobble, but grips are solid. I'd still kill for a TM though. Had a chance at getting one a few years back but I missed it. Ah well I have a feeling all the problems with this one might force me to learn my way around inside it a bit more than a TM would. :p

It could be a few things.

The hammer might be pulling too far back, the slide might have a burr causing poor fitment or the hammer might have been manufactured slightly incorrectly causing the angle to be off or be too "long"

I suggest you inspect the slide and see if the hammer is making contact with the bottom during action, if that is the case check to see if the hammer has any excess play or movement after being cocked.


Also check for burrs and manufacturing errors. If I remember right the SS226 slide is machined and thus this could be an issue.

The hammer should be making contact with the internals of the slide to an extent, no? Isn't that how it gets pushed into the rear position?

i know exactly whats wrong and theres really nothing you can do about it except add a buffer to the recoil rod to reduce the slide travel, the hammer runs along the BBU but them runs past it, pushes up, then the BBU gets caught on the hammer as it tries to return forward

Yeah I'm gonna see if it can be dulled or something so as not to catch without affecting its function, but the buffer sounds like a good idea. Thanks!

I just bought a P226 and I'm having the exact same problem. I'm also getting a gas leak every time I uncock the hammer. I can hear it hissing and if I put the same mag back in it won't fire. Is anyone else having that issue and does anyone know how to fix it?
I'm a noob to airsoft and the gun the brand new out of the box. I'm seriously considering just returning it and saving myself the hassle.

I sorted this out by filing the tip of the hammer to an angle that allows the slide to push the hammer back down when returning to battery, rather then hitting and stopping the slide.

be careful to not take off too much, as this can cause a failiure to cock the hammer after a shot.

Remember, take off a small amount, then re-assemble, test and repeat as needed.

Return it. That gun is a pile of junk. I posted on another thread in regards to the skeleton arms 226 in effect that trained monkeys could have designed and manufactured a higher quality gun.

These guns would sell in Asia for 20-40 dollars. IMO they are worse than the crossman and other clear pistols that you can buy at Canadian tire or walmart.

I don't know if "pile of junk" is the phrase I would use to describe it....I just got mine last week and I am pretty happy with it: no jams or issues yet, however, it is not trouble-free....
The spare magazine I bought does not seem to work in the gun at all, the mag that came WITH the gun works perfectly, but the spare does not. The spare takes gas (with no detectable leaks), loads BBs, and slides into the gun without issue, but it won't fire. Can anyone shed some light on this? Thanks.

if it's taking gas and is holding gas but won't fire and your stock mag fires I would suspect that the valve knocker on the gun isnt reaching the release valve on the mag for whatever reason. Compare your two mags and see if that's the issue.

As near as I can tell, the mags are 100% identical. They are both SS mags, both are brand new, and neither one has any marks or damage which may cause a malfunction. I checked the release valve carefully (even using vernier calipers to check the height), and there does not seem to be any difference between the two. Wierd....
