Best M14 and MP5 on the market? Things to look out for?
 

Hi guys, let me start off by saying that I am scheduled to be age verified this Saturday at the Mill game in Quebec. I have absolutely no idea what I will gain access to in the classifieds section once I am verified, but I am excited to find out.

I have a background in paintball and would like to transition into playing airsoft. I am going to purchase my first airsoft gun pretty soon but would like some opinions. I have read some reviews on what is available to me locally (mostly G&G selection)

The MP5 A4 and the M14 Socom/Scout are my two favorite firearms, and I would like to find an airsoft gun modeled after one of these. To me the most important thing about the gun I buy would be if it were extremely durable, and reliable. I take care of my gear but I dislike being gentle with it on the field, "babying" it if you will. Having a clear receiver does not bother me, but wobly mag/stock etc definitely will. I have no interest in electric blowback guns, but full blowback or solely AEG apeal to me. My price range would be preferably between 300 - 400 dollars, although I would fork out a little more if it meant getting an extremely solid/reliable gun.

Please everyone just throw opinions, knowledge, reviews, and anything else at me to help me narrow down a selection.

The Tokyo Marui M14 Socom is one of the most beautiful durable M14s I have ever had the pleasure to use. Racking the bolt on it gives the most satisfying audible ka-chink. Its body is extremely durable and because its TM its a quality item right off that bat with plenty of after market replacement parts and upgrades.

G&G Mp5 are not that bad but you must replace the piston as soon as you purchase one. It's a known problem with them.

Sounds good, looks like you're all squared up and you only need to wait for the AV tag.

I'm not sure how much I'm allowed to say but if you're willing to get used there are a few available in the classifieds (just taking this off the first page of the classifieds). There's a LNIB TM MP5 available for $475. There's also a TM MP5A4 and a CA MP5A2 available for 300 and 400 respectively (this TM needs some work as well as the CA but take it to a gundoc or learn how to fix it yourself and you'll be good).

As for M14's they're not as common as say Armalites and such but they're not "ultra rare" either. More like "uncommon" or "rare" (that is using Trading Card Game terminology).

EDIT: Yeah I should probably give you an idea of M14 prices. There's a TM M14 with 2 mags charger and batteries going for $500 ATM as well as an Echo1 M14 for $450 (but it's SPF right now).

TM and CA are both great companies so no worries about durability or being "wobbly". I would personally avoid the publicly available "cansoft" if I were you. I don't have extensive paintball knowledge but I hope this analogy explains it: "Getting a cansoft gun is like buying a cheap Tippmann (that you'll grow out of fast) vs. something more mid end (which most people will have once they log some serious time in the sport like a CA, TM, G&P, etc.) vs something more high end like a Palmer Custom (that only rich kids can afford or people who are really dedicated buy, corresponding to a company like SystemA)

Hope this helps and hope you have a good time at your first game, people will be nice as long as you're not an asshat who wants "ch33p gunz 2 play on their uncles pr1v4t pr0pertee width a larg3 encl0sed f0rest". Seems like you have a good idea of what's expected (and who wouldn't, coming from such a similar sport as paintball). You'll fit in nicely with the other players.

M14 - TM or Bust. Trust me.

MP5 - TM and CA are the way to go. CA has a Metal Body, Externally very nice, but the TM while plastic bodied, has a superior hop up system.

the new CA's with the new hopups are actually decent. Don't bother getting a CA if it's a sportline series

If I am going to dish out a larger sum of money I guess I would rather put it towards the M14 seeing as they are not as common as MP5s. I think I would cherish an M14 more. I am a younger guy (turning 20 in a little over a month) and spare money is hard to come across for me.

Would it be a bad move to start out with the G&G MP5 A4 and replace the piston? I am not as comfortable buying second hand with my limited knowledge of airsoft gun internals and performance, and I would rather avoid ordering something and having it shipped to my residence as I have had bad experiences and there will be extra costs.

Regardless, I will check out some videos on the CA MP5 A4 once I get home from school. Looking forward to more replies.

Honestly, if you can afford a CA MP5, do it.. just for the metal body alone. The CA bodies are superior to anything G&G equipps.

I don't trust WE at all as far as their GBB pistols go, they're utter garbage if they're GBBR's are any different that'll be a surprise to me. As for the TM M14 with KA EBR kit thats utter fuckng sex +1000000:D

To be completely honest, if you asked this a year ago I would have told you there's no worries ordering from the classifieds but with the recent trend I've seen if you're going to buy used definitely make sure it was owned by a reputable gundoc, or the person seems well respected/liked and is local.

A new TM M14 I think that the price is around $600-700 for one that BNIB/LNIB.

You know the G&G isn't actually a bad gun just there's more variety available. I would really wait until you go to your first game and waiting for your AV tag before deciding on what you want. It's like buying something from a street vendor and disregarding the large store right beside him (that may sell more variety of stuff) or vice versa.

Sadly, I agree. The last 3 used guns I've gotten off ASC have definetly not been as advertised -things ranging from pieces missing, to an entire front end that needed re-machining to fit on the gun.

After the last gun I bought I don't think I'm buying a used gun on ASC again.

Definitely look into the CA MP5 series. I had a quite similar idea to you regarding what style of first gun I wanted except I wanted an M4 or MP5 instead of an M14. I ended up picking up a BNIB MP5A3 from an IVAN locally and have never regretted it. It looks and feels great and I just had my first couple outdoor games yesterday and boy did it perform. I was going in thinking I was going to be out ranged as I was running an MP5 compared to the guys using AK's, Armalites and G36's. Not a chance I was pleasantly surprised with the range and accuracy I was getting out of the small barrel especially for a stock gun. It had no problems keeping up with the larger assault rifles.
