cleaning your mechbox

Sorry if this has been posted already, but are there certain types of silicon or lithium grease needed?

lemegacool April 13th, 2009 23:18

the gearbox needs only a small amount of grease, go to your local canadian tire and buy "white lithium" grease for the gears, for the piston head's oring i recommend the sticky-g oring grease from airsoft parts.ca great stuff! and thats pretty much it!

any type of silicon lube will do as long as it says protects rubber right? even if its from canadian tire?

lemegacool April 13th, 2009 23:48

should do the job but i personally prefer grease on the piston head

Just don't get anything with with petroleum products/distillates.

so you can use lithium grease if you have to? But silicon would be better i take it.

A couple of times doing my mechbox I've used only lithium grease inside it.. from the gears to the piston to the O-rings. I noticed no difference between using lithium grease and using silicone oil on the piston and O-rings.

I've been messing around with StickyG grease sets (moly lube gear grease and silicone cylinder grease)...Airsoftparts.ca carries it. Nice stuff, the gear grease is very slippery. Excess tends to fly off the gears. The cylinder silicone grease is pretty thick...and doesn't "liquefy" at temp (the cylinder can get pretty hot under long full auto bursts). One set is enough to do several full rebuilds.

Other than that I've just used white lithium grease for everything...works fine.

I vote Superlube! You can safely use it on any part of a gearbox. Its harder to find but you don't need lots so it lasts awhile.

NoGear April 14th, 2009 20:59

ok i thought lithum grease melted or weakend non metal parts or sumthing

jaayr0me April 14th, 2009 22:25

So basically all i have to use is white lithium grease?

If you can't find super lube or other kind of grease whatever, then Canadian Tire white lithium grease would do the job. I used it all my gun and since no issue yet but I can't guarantee that.

Cheers !

Airsoftparts has a G&P Grease set that works great.
