It's Almost Hallowe'en!
Hallows'Eve is almost upon us, and with that, all of us at Airsoft Canada just wanted to wish airsofters around the world a safe and happy Hallowe'en.
Just as a safety reminder, it's important for all us to remember and realize how realistic our "toy" guns look, and that there have been many accidental police shootings due to realistic looking prop guns. Halloween costumes are not exempted from such accidental shootings, and care should ALWAYS be exercised with your airsoft guns. As much as we would love to dress up and use our guns as props, it's always a better idea to use fluorescent and obviously fake gun for our props, rather than to use our airsoft guns. Ideas used in the past:
Wishing you all safe trick or treating, and enjoy any parties you may attend. |
Aw can't I just keep the saftey on?
|
disclaimer : YES I still trick or treat.
|
I'm sure no one wants to hear this here, but two years ago on Halloween night I walked several blocks through residential and downtown Yellowknife to a bar wearing a pretty full combat load-out, including ACUs, protec helmet, gear vest, Kabar knife and a black-painted, Walmart springer M4 and holstered sidearm. More than once, RCMP and municipal enforcement drove by, and didn't even slow down... At the bar, they liked they outfit so much they asked me to stand guard with the bouncers at the door.
Of course, this could be just a Yellowknife thing... (Moderators, feel free to delete this post if you think I might give noobs bad ideas...;) ) |
Ahh ASC, policing Canada :p
But seriously, keep it SAFE and SMART guys :) |
ak and shemagh ?
|
I'm sure we're all well-adjusted and aware enough to have not needed this warning and we're all smart and reasonable enough to agree it needed to be said anyway.
Happy Hallowe'en. |

This is a little like the don't drink and drive you'll spill your drink routine.
Don't take your expensive AEG's out on Halloween, they could get confiscated. Yes boys I sell these at the shop. Going quickly http://www.armyissue.com/cube/images/uploads/mp7toy.JPG http://www.armyissue.com/cube/images...s/IMGP3323.JPG http://www.armyissue.com/cube/images...s/IMGP3325.JPG http://www.armyissue.com/cube/images/uploads/aktoy.JPG These babies look great and range in price from $10-$22.00. And make a great Leave behind incase the one night stand requires a second visit. |
i'd rather just get a super soaker and dress up as a Ghost Buster

If you have skills with woodworking or a basic knowledge you can free hand a m4/m16/ak47 or mp5 out of wood with a jigsaw and a
drill... I made an ak47 cut out from 1" thick plywood and spraypainted it black... Worked well as a prop and it's made of wood so police had no problems when I walked past them a couple years ago and actually got a compliment on my ak47 cut out by an officer |

I had some guy on facebook send me a message, looking to buy a gun to use "as a halloween prop". I lol'd and denied the sale.
|
this is why i kept a couple CT springers from when i was younger. who cares if they get confiscated?
|
realistic looking guns are obviously prohibitted but are plate carriers/vests, holsters, tac gear etc?

Dang...haha. I was planning on being a soldier if I went out
|
... Yeah... I was kind of interested in that third one that ArmyIssue posted.....
Although it kind of looks like one of those nerf machine guns that use that bandoleer thing. It would totally go well with some pink camo and hello kitty ear headband things :) |

Would the police confiscate a phaser?

Ensign Ricky? Best character of all time.
|
Ohhh the redshirts, how we miss thee
|
I have four uniforms. Just have to decide which one to wear.
|
For someone wanting to carry a sidearm or a full-size rifle, I would recommend a Rubber Band Gun. I've been using a rubber band gun as my sidearm for my LAPD uniform/costume for the last four years, and I'll be using it again for my NYPD uniform/costume this year. Not only does it give you something to rest your hand/arm on when you're doing nothing more than having a wobbly-pop or two, but you have an elastic projectile if you decide someone needs being pelted with bits of rubber.
As a disclaimer/recommendation though, I highly suggest leaving the rubber band gun in a natural wood colour versus black. If you opt for black, someone may think that it is real and things would go bad very quickly. Speaking of which, I'll post pics as soon as we get them done. |
Last year xAndrewx and myself kitted up, and the only "weapon" we had on us, was a banana in our holsters.
The ladies in line behind us at Zaphods had some fun with them. |
drop in numbers this year
The kids are all gone now for the season, has anyone else noticed a huge drop in numbers when it comes to the monkeys at the door? (trick or treaters)
Last year I had 120 kids at the door, this year maybe 25. |
Its still early here but we have not had many children at all so far.
I think we are still under double digits. |
Yeah I took my brother out and got some candy for myself while I was at it.
But did not see as many kids as we did last year. Had fun and scored free candy though hehe. |
I hypothesize it to be related to the changing demographics. The country is ageing, some areas disproportionately to others. A lot of the city areas appear to be older whereas in suburban areas there are a lot more new and younger families as that's where there is affordable living/housing.
Also since people in Canada and first world countries aren't having as many kids (Canada's TFR is only 1.6 children compared to 2.5 needed for a "stable" population) that might be affecting things as well. Long story short you'll have a lot more candy after Halloween in the upcoming years especially so if you live in "older" neighbourhoods with a large amount of retired/seniors. |

Not a one this year.
|
Nothing at my door too.
perhaps heavy rain discouraged the kids. |
It could be H1N1 fears. With what happened recently, I wouldn't be surprised if parents would want to keep children indoors until it all blows over.

I remember going out for halloween when i was alot younger and the streets were filled. This year we did get alot of kids but nothing like before. I think our count was over 100.
|
Making me start to think we're going to turn into zombie like with the H1N1 virus.
Starting to think 2012 is really going to happen with people going crazy trying to get the vaccine. |
Yeah i think it was the H1N1 flu too.
I was at a house party with the lights on and all the Halloween regalia and decor, after 9pm, not one kid showed up... This was a new neighborhood too with a school within 1 block so plenty of young couple and kids. I think it's the H1N1 flu scare, right after that 13 year old died i bet you all the parents were probably pissing their pants. |
Hundreds of kids in my neighbourhood. But hey Kids or their parents just are not as stoked about collecting candy as generations gone by. Its one of the casualties of "better" entertainment for kids. Stick and ball meant hours of fun for the whole neighbourhood before. Pales against a WII.
Cheers |

It was even on CHCH news with parents being paranoid about everything. They interviewed some teenage kids about it and the one actually said "Stop being a bunch of paranoid babies. Oh well, more candy for us!" |
Everyone loved my cardboard ak, i put about a hour worth of work into it and got comments on it all night at the bar.

Also ran into a few more airsofters which was kinda cool, especially since I wasn't in Ottawa, I was in Belleville, and didn't even know there were any airsofters in that town. I feel kinda stupid 'cause I was completely shitfaced and I told a cop he had a damn good costume, and then I looked at him and said "Oh shit, you're real, sorry" |
Its Almost Halloween
Its almost the greatest holiday ever. The day where the freaks rule. Where its cool to dress like a zombie. Its Halloween.
Whats everyone going as this year? I just got orange jumpsuit. Guess what Im being? |
