Importing Optics Gear?

Importing Optics Gear:

Anyone know the law about importing this stuff form the US?

http://www.opticsplanet.net/leapers-...p-rd40rgw.html

I ordered this and all looked good but just now 3 days later i got an email saying its some kinda liability because you can mount these items to a weapon....no shit you can? haha. Can i get these in Canada i have not been able to find a place that has them.

Thanks guys!!!

ujiro April 17th, 2009 12:00

Yes. Simple RDS and scopes are not restricted for export from the United States, nor import to Canada.

Griffen April 17th, 2009 12:06

Yeah well thats what i was told but the guy i just spoke to at shoptics.com said they won't ship to canada because of some law in the us about shipping items "like that" whatever that means.

www.dlairgun.com

Looks like they got it!!!! Sweet!!!!

The Saint April 17th, 2009 12:10

If there's a problem, it's not on our end. Certain high-end optics are controlled on the US exportation side (ITAR).

Crunchmeister April 17th, 2009 12:14

You can get that same sight in Canada for about $50. What you'd pay in US funds + shipping + duties / brokerage isn't worth it really.

But as The Saint said, high end optics are export-restricted from the US. However, there shouldn't be any issue with this one. Sounds like the seller just doesn't want the hassle of determining what is and isn't restricted, so he just doesn't ship out of country at all.

Griffen April 17th, 2009 12:21

Thanks guys. I didn't think id have an issue but i guess the ITAR wont let stuff like this one pass. But the site i posted (www.dlairgun.com ) from Canada will but just not payable with paypay....boooo!!!! Silly Americans.

Tugg April 20th, 2009 17:22

what about ehobby? thats out of hong kong i think, so that should be ok..... right?

FOX_111 April 20th, 2009 17:35

Real scopes and red-dot are importable, unless they are special military one that are export restricted.

But someone in the import export buisness said to me they where subject to special importation taxes, so you might get unlucky and over charged at the border.

Replica could be seized based on copyright laws, like any other replica. (Vests etc.)

mcguyver April 20th, 2009 18:44

I was reading through a synopsis on ITAR the other day, and it's so open-ended, that basically anything that could be a part for a firearm is subject to DOS export license requirements. It's due the fact that the last administration cut funding for the department responsible for issuing export licenses, and told them (and created a bill to empower them) to collect their own funding from license fees. That is why they have shot up from $100 to $2500 and more depending on the item.

They have a wide latitude as to what they can restrict, so expect to see many more parts and accessories become scarce, items that have zero to do with national security or technology secrets.

Chingyul April 20th, 2009 22:32

I made an order from optics planet, and the MP5 scope mount I wanted was deemed restricted from export.

Screen April 20th, 2009 23:45

Some of the export laws from US are insane. Father wanted to order a pair of thin grips for his Hi Power but they are banned from export. He can order magazines but two slabs of thin wood are a no go. And the optics are same thing.

If its military grade, used by the military, or military worthy, chances are you won't get it from the US through regular sources unless you have an import permit. I do beleive its a way for certain departments to make money so they can pay their electric bills since they don't know how to turn off the f*ck*ng light (anyone that visited US government buildings know what im talking about;)).

FlyingCats April 21st, 2009 07:21

Easy answer- Yes.

Ok Answer- As long as it's not the real EOtech sight or Tasco because your just wasting your money and it will probably get seized, but you can buy REPLICA's of the sights on Canadian sites or Americian Sites.

White_knight April 21st, 2009 07:32

tasco seized? i hope thats a joke. to the op, head on down to your local canadian tire. they have that exact optic, its just called a tasco reddot. i got mine there for my p90 and it works great.

Thats what Ronan said.

Ronan April 21st, 2009 09:13

Oh yeah anything resembling what the military uses are usually thrown in the 'need a permit to import' because retailers can't be bothered with it.

It's a classic case of 'better safe than sorry'.

FOX_111 April 21st, 2009 09:41

Take what Ronan say with a grain of salt.

And Tasco is FAR from military grade. It's not even airsoft grade for the most part.

I think you mean

"Disregard everything Ronan says, don't expose him to direct sunlight and don't get him wet, or feed him after midnight."

:)

Yea, Go to Canadian Tire. They've got that one for like 30 bucks. Or check out Cabelas or Whosale Sports, they'll have better optics.

Tugg April 21st, 2009 18:54

well im looking for an acog. anyone know nething? i dont wanna spend any more then $70

mcguyver April 21st, 2009 21:37

I have never legally imported any real gun parts from the U.S.

The export bullshit is just ridiculous.

I rely on others to import, or find other avenues to acquire what I want, just like most folks.

Drake April 22nd, 2009 10:07

Thread cleaned.

Enough with the pissing contest. Ronan, not everything on this forum is about you, give it a rest.

ACOG is like a RDS(Red Dot sight). You should just get a EOtech there good.

ACOGs are supposed to be magnified optics. Some clones came out that were red dots with an ACOG -looking body, but most ACOGs are magnified.

And for $70... maybe used or a really crappy red dot one on ebay.

Ok, I'm really not one for ragging on noobs, but dude, you really need to read more and post less. I've read a lot of your posts so far where you're "giving advice" and it's clearly obvious to pretty much anyone except a noob you haven't the slightest clue of what you're talking about on any subject you choose to chime in on. The only thing you do is give out incorrect information that will confuse noobs who are often only slightly newer to airsoft than you are.

If you don't know what the hell you're talking about, then stfu and let people who know their shit dispense the advice. And I'm not just talking about your replies in this thread. It applies to almost every damn post you've made on ASC so far.
