STALKER Shadow Of Chernobyl Game Idea

Hey everyone.
I posted this idea before a while ago sort of but not in full detail.
My Stalker game is a sort of Capture and Hold idea, best played at night with a large number of players 45+.
4 teams divided evenly and a smallish group of freelance players(between 5 and 10) who are against everyone and no one.

Each team will have to hold their own base, while trying to capture as many of the other bases as possible. (5 bases, 1 at each corner of the map as home bases and one preferably segmented base in the center) At each base a time keeper will be planted up a tree in a hunters perch. Every 5 minutes that team gains a point for holding the base. Since it is a night game. Each team will be equipped with glowsticks of that teams colour, once a base is captured the team will run a glowstick up the flagpole to show that they have captured the base and to start the timer.
The 4 teams are as follows.
Freedom: Yellow
Duty: Red
Merc: Blue
Military: Green

The freelance players(Stalkers, White glow sticks), Can work together and capture bases like the other teams if they want and gain points that way. However their goal in the game is to gather artifacts (Prizes with white glowsticks taped to them. Candy works good, boxes of Condoms for a bit of comedy)

Each artifact counts as 5 points making it possible for a good Stalker to win the game, however they have to work fast since the other 4 teams can pick up artifacts and just leave the glowstick, making the artifact worth only 1 point.

Respawn is up to the GM that day, I like Dogtag games or just regular 5 minute respawn.

Hope this inspires someone to edit and make my idea better :)

V

Simplicity works best. Force on Force are the most fun, with some objectives thrown in.

I personally wouldn't care to win a point and hope it has some candy attached :)

Have fun if you try it though, it's what you make of it.

Haha, I get where your comming from and I tend to agree. The extra bit with the stalkers tossed in is really just for thoes of us who love being a 1 man army and sneaking around. There arent alot of stealth over firepower roles in games with specific objectives. Thought it would be nice to toss it in, also it goes quite well with the theme of the game. :)

ShelledPants March 21st, 2008 01:06

You know, if you took your time and organized it with enough groups of people, the base idea is very good. :) Who doesn't love post apocalyptic wars? :)

Simplify it though. 2 teams with the stalkers thrown in. :)

I'd be so down for a S.T.A.L.K.E.R based game...

ProbeJax March 21st, 2008 12:28

GOing to limit the weapons to those found in the game?

That would be quite possible. except the game is based in the near future and as part of the story you would find a few "super stalkers" who had alot of money and could afford to bring in fancy guns and what not. Also the game features a wide array of weapons so thats a user preference thing.

Personaly I just hate restricting someone from the game just because they own a certain type of gun.

Sergeantmajor March 21st, 2008 12:51

will players have personal PDA's?

Cool ideas. Thanks Vendettaseve. Props.

Lets not forget radiation.

We need lots of radiation.

And lead suites...

Very true. Also a good group of staff can make the difference between a good game and a great game. I need 10+ people to help me run my event this year and a good 6 months of planning along with $5000+ to start it up.

I was thinking about Stalker game for a while now, I think it will be really complicated to recreate true atmosphere of PC game but it's doable if players and organizers will take it seriously. Game like that should run for at least 12 hours and should be hosted on a large field with different layouts. I think Wassaga field is most suitable location.
There was Stalker themed RPG game with elements of airsoft in Ukraine last summer. I think it ran for 48 hours and had more than 500 players involved.

DuffMan March 21st, 2008 20:23

...did they play in Pripyat?

666 March 21st, 2008 20:25

There was one crazy guy on Russian board who wanted to organize a game in Pripyat but that didn't work out well for him :)
If I remember correctly hosts rented large military training facility with buildings, roads, factories etc. Place looked pretty damn cool.

DuffMan March 21st, 2008 20:35

I think the radiation has died down there a lot, has it not? I'd fuckin' fly to Ukraine for a game in Pripyat :P

666 March 21st, 2008 20:48

It's better now, some people even managed to take a tours around the area but according to Stalker crew they were not allowed to get off paved roads and could only visit certain areas when they took the tour.

ShelledPants March 22nd, 2008 06:12

Also. I believe there was a 1-2 hour per 2 day visit in which you could stay in area.

Burgoyne March 22nd, 2008 13:30

The only people that can stay for over a few hours, are the soldiers and workers....And people there for scientific stuff...I want to go before they put the new "sarcophagus" over the current one...Or before the current one falls.

666 March 22nd, 2008 17:41

Power plant still operates. Crews are delivered by hellicopter so people stay there for more than just 1-2 hours a day.

Vendettaseve March 22nd, 2008 20:33

The Canadian Tire down the street from me had a sale recently. Selling alot of hunting gear and what not. I saw the ideal thing for the point counters in the game. They were selling Hunter's Tree Perch's. Nice cozy little chairs that strap onto a tree 20 feet up with a nice little safety belt and all that. Would be perfect :D

Also Im pretty hard set to there being 4 teams. As it wouldn't be Stalker without the random chaos and factions roving about. Having just two teams would kills the spirit of the game I think.

Vendettaseve March 23rd, 2008 10:57

Big news everyone. A release date has finaly been announced, ish. Looking like August for Clear Sky :) Cant wait.

For real? Argh... thats so far! The wait is just killing me!

LoricTheMad March 30th, 2008 01:15

The NPP was producing electricity until 2000, when the last of the three remaining reactors was taken off grid. As far as Pripyat is concerned, there are people living there who arent soldiers or workers. They're people whi decided to sneak in and move back into their homes and farms, rad levels be damned. Pripyat's official website had a video for download that covered them in detail.

Lakonian March 30th, 2008 01:47

I'd be sooo down for this.

Shit, check the sig for fuck's sake. lol!

Are there any fields around that would do overnight games? I've been looking at the idea myself and I've been talking it over with one of my friends and the same though occured to us both. It really doesn't seem like you could get the proper feel of the game without a long game (or underground bunkers crammed with 1950's era tech, but that's another story). If anyone is really serious about doing a STALKER themed game, it would be worth their while to talk to some re enactors about camping.

You mean if they pull another STALKER, oh it'll be out in 2004- erm, 2007, sorry guise.

Vendettaseve August 30th, 2008 09:52

Quick update on the game, Its release date was yesterday (August 29th) However the Canadian date got pushed back to Sept 8th for no apparent reason, says EB Games.

Anyways onto pressing news, Iv been talking to the owner of Camp X paintball, they think its an interesting idea, and would be more than happy to maybe consider it.
So far sketchy but we shall see. :D

McKay August 30th, 2008 10:01

Honestly I would probably make an effort to go to a Stalker game. Get some details in place and I will probably attempt to make it.

Vendettaseve August 31st, 2008 11:08

Lol Camp X paintball is out.

Anyone know any other good outdoor fields around that might be willing to host an all nighter?

Would be really nice to have a S.T.A.L.K.E.R. based game.
Does anyone plan to do this, or the idea is lost in oblivion?

s.t.a.l.k.e.r. is an amazing game, just the whole concept of it, the culture behind the life of a stalker, ive always wanted to do a stalker themed game. oh, i highly recomend the complete mods for the stalker games, they have it for S.O.C and Clear Sky and are working on C.O.P.
