New to Airsoft

Hello,

My name is Eric Grills, and I live in Thornhill, Ontario, just north of Toronto. My friend Nolan, and I are looking for guns to purchase and a place to play. I found a site, http://www.airsplat.com/ that seemed to offer reasonably priced guns, ready to be shipped to Canada. As for fields, how does everything work? I'm new to this, please help me out. I need suggestions regarding guns and fields.

Please respond here or e-mail me/hit me up on AIM.

dont risk ordering out of canada man either buy from a canadian retailer or get age verified and buy from the classifieds

surebet February 23rd, 2008 16:40

Hi,

The simple answer for the site you posted is no. Buying outside of Canada will end in tears, since customs will try to take the guns away from you.

Right now, your best bet is to get age verified and buy from the classifieds on this site.

Edit: DAMN YOU BOWERS, DAMN YOU!

Those guns are from the US, you cannot get them across the border.

You need to purchase a gun from a canadian retailer, unfortunatly there aren't many, and prices are 3x that of US prices due to import fees and your basic laws of supply and demand.

Now, as far as fields go, what's the deal?

The Saint February 23rd, 2008 16:46

People host public events at certain paintball fields, which has the proper insurance for activities like this. See the Ontario events forum for examples.

Metallica60091 February 23rd, 2008 16:46

Let me clear the air, I'm on a tight budget. What are the best low priced guns on the market? Model and make.

surebet February 23rd, 2008 16:50

Provided that you are of legal age and take the time to get age verified by a rep of this site, the basic setup will cost upwards of 500$, with a reasonnable setup costing around 1000$.

Guns start out at about 300$ in the classifieds, but you need batteries, mags, etc to use them.

There's basicly no way to pull this off on only a couple hundred bucks.

Metallica60091 February 23rd, 2008 16:51

Wow, and there's no way I can get past customs eh? No one has ever pulled it off?

Starnight February 23rd, 2008 16:52

If your on a tight budget your best bet would prob be to either get verified and order from the classifieds or order from shootsoft, they have guns for cheaper, more of the cheaper makes but most can be upgraded.

its happened but its not worth the risk at leas in my opinion

What exactly do you mean by "tight budget"?? Get age verified, and then you can check the classifieds for used airsoft, or if lucky, maybe the ocassional NIB. Having access to that should give you an idea of pricing. Just be warned that airsoft can be cheaper than paintball to play/maintain, but it is very, VERY easy to spend lots of cash on kit and all the bling.

As for Canada Customs, NOT WORTH THE RISK!!! Charged with smuggling restricted/prohibited weapons, criminal record, vehicle impoundment, maybe property seizures (if they assume "proceeds of crime"....it can get really ugly....fast. Oh, and you will not be allowed back into the US, and anything you order from the US will be opened/searched (you will be flaged).

Customs doesn't check inside every box that comes across the border, but they don't really need to when boxes from airsoft retailers are clearly labelled as such. If they catch you, they keep it.

Metallica60091 February 23rd, 2008 16:56

They probably keep it and have a flippin customs people airsoft tourney.

Anyways, as far as guns go, I got like $300. Paintball is more to play, but it's easier to find a place to play, and cheaper for gun purchases.

Bowers February 23rd, 2008 16:58

well if your willing to throw about 50-100 more in you could get a jing gong of sorts from shootsoft

edit: dont forget you still need magazines bb's batteries and some other stuff to rly get into the fun

Metallica60091 February 23rd, 2008 16:59

Well, I don't got enough money lol. I'm broke..

I'll be forced to go with Paintball.. :/

It's just so much easier to find a game..

Bowers February 23rd, 2008 17:01

sad to hear

Stow the $300 and save another $300 over a year or two, and you'll have enough for a very basic kit.

P.S.

How old are you?

Metallica60091 February 23rd, 2008 17:08

I live in Thornhill, Ontario. Just north of Toronto.

Honestly, reading a load of FAQ's and stuff before really getting into the game has been really helpful for me. From one noob to another: when the vets tell you to read ALOT, they're doing it for a reason. It's a huge help. And from a $$ perspective....I must admit, I had (have) this problem too. It's an expensive game to get into, especially startup-wise. Ammo is a hellofalot cheaper than paintball, so you save a bit there...but as was pointed out above....you can spend alot REALLY fast if you're not careful. And games aren't that hard to find, man. There's CQB at FAC and Zeonprime's Sgt. Splatters outings, among others. On the plus side, it IS the off season...so you have some time before most big games start. Put the $$ you have right now away, save some more till spring, and then you can get going np!!

Oh, and age verification is key. Life got ALOT easier for me once I turned 18.

Cheers! Hope I helped a bit and didn't reinforce my noobness TOO much.

Ozles February 24th, 2008 11:39

it's not that expensive, you just need to have godly luck, take me for instance i got my gun and mags, charger and a set of fatigues, armor and pouches, along with a few extras and i have not quite broken 600$

Qlong February 24th, 2008 12:04

Get a Kraken, decent start-up gun, Bass Pro, under 200, 18+ though, they don't sell to anyone under.

Its an AK btw.

Haha! you think Paintball will be cheaper? Sure you can play for a few weeks, but then after playing for a few months, you would have spent well over the amount of money on paintballs and c02. Airsoft is cheaper in the longrun, but its expensive to get into, Paintball is really expensive to play because ammo is so expensive, and you have to wear gay colors and be around 10 year olds and drunk old men who come to the feild because its not private games.

I think the Internet ate my post

I suggest the following

Find a game (it's the off season) but most airsoft teams and communities are pretty close and friendly. Go out to a game and ask one of the vets for a spare AEG. The majority of vet players will likely lend you their spare if you talk to them in advance and get to know them. Test your feet before you leap into the sport.

Next If you really want, it is possible to drive down to the states and bring up an airsoft. In the FAQS there are some excellent discussion on this and improving your chances of Customs letting you in.

http://thewarstore.org/

Every time I go to the states visiting family I drop down to that store. There are MANY and i mean MANY MANY Canadians who drive down for the weekend and bring up guns. Email them and ask for more information.

If you are still looking and can't do that try the Canadian online retailers provided in the links section of the FAQ.http://http://airsoftcanada.com/showthread.php?t=49032

Try local gun dealers. Some gun retailers sell AirSofts (Edmonton, pistols and SMG only) I've only seen made in america models but they are better than clearsofts and most have upgrade options.

Canadian Tire... Let me explain this route. Each Canadian tire is independently owned. My friend in BC claims to have purchased a TM M9 GBB from a Richmond Canadian Tire. On a whim I tried my local Canadian Tire stores. Three of them in town Carry Made in USA Airsofts on top of the Pellet/BB guns and real steels. Each store will have different items.

I've read on some forums that some Walmart super centers carry Made in USA airsofts. I know they carry safety gear and clearsofts.

If you have 300-500 you can still get started. Generally all guns come with 1 locap mag. Buying 1 Hi cap will run you ~30 dollars.

Battery and Chargers can be bought incredibly cheap from your local battery world store. They can build you a custom pack for whatever you need. DO NOT BRING YOUR GUN TO THE STORE. Go to the internet and show them a battery configuration.

Hope this helps.

USA-made airsoft guns? What gun might those be? As far as I know, all commercially available airsoft guns come from Asia.
