Super awesome L119A1 AND C8FTHB (Chad's G&P woc GBBR build)
5 Attachment(s)
Hey all, it's been a long time coming but I am finally nearing the end of my hoarding of parts. Here is a little sneak peek for now, I apologize for the quality of the pics but it's just parts, no need for models.
Feel free to offer any suggestions, comments, complaints..........whatever Attachment 31331 Attachment 31332 Attachment 31333 Attachment 31334 Some of the important parts: Saber L119A1 M4 GBBR body. Real deal C8 handguards. L119A1 STEEL outer barrel for WA 16" G&P AN/PAQ4-C UTG 5 position foregrip TRIAD (internals are G&P WOC full assemble kit and I have a random 3 round burst kit that came with ambi selector. Inner barrel is G&P WOC with chamber and hop up. I have no idea where the triangle sight and gas tube came from but it's nice, I think it's G&P.) and now for something completely different......so wtf was this artist on? This was at a local Wings-up. Attachment 31335 |

I know you already grabbed the UTG... but Hamilton Tactical has the actual Cadex Grip on sale, if you so desire.
|
I definitely do. Thanks man, never knew about that site.
|
Definitely adding Hamilton Tactical to my bookmarks. Thanks!
|
I'm finding oneshot still takes the prize. Glad I found the cadex folding grips though.
|
Also, if you need the sling plate adapter... I don't know how WAs are for fitting RS, but the RS sling plate adapter can be found at Brownells for about $23.... cheaper elsewhere but I've never been able to figure out how these guys charge me $6 bucks for shipping and have stuff to my door in three days.
|
Alright, thanks, this is helpful.
Alright, thanks, this is helpful. Does anyone know if a 16" barrel is from end to end, or from receiver to end? |
hey Chad, How is the build quality of the metal body and how is it preforming in your gun. I've have poor results with metal bodys that are ACM. Im planning to build a c8a2

Couple of notes...
1. I've learned CADEX grips are cheaper at MD Charlton than they are at Hamilton Tactical. I picked mine up there for about $40.00, plus they also had the CADEX rails for about $33.00. 2. The C8FTHB/C8A3 heavy barrels for some reason are actually 15.8 inches long. I remember someone saying it was so they couldn't be sold easily in the United States (SBR and all) but yeah. |

Edit: I just noticed they have a retail store in Mississauga so I'm going to guess that's where you purchased the grip? Thanks and cheers - Dan |
Yep, that would be the place I purchased mine. I ended up posting both up in the BST for the price I paid for them... as much as I liked them I like running a barebones setup more.
|
So I hit a couple snags.....
I have been trying to get a lower that I can strip down aand get engraved but I keep coming up empty handed...... I even bought a pretty much complete WA and when I got it, realized one of the previous owners broke both trigger guard tabs and then superglued them back on.....so I'm pretty well stuck now without the lower to complete this. So.....anyone knows of somewhere I can get a G&P WOC or WA spec body without deep engravings..let me know! The forward grip I am going to obtain at last minute, I may go with the stubby one from one shot. The good news is that I'm going to have enough for two rifles, an SFW and a C7 variant. |

Partially finished my build.
Still need a G&P lower I can strip down and engrave. Attachment 35943 So far: G&P AN-PAQ 4-C Diemaco BUIS Diemaco TRI-AD Colt Canada C8 slim hand-guards (need to paint OD) G&P raider grip G&P woc steel upgrade kit Steel outer barrel with AEG front end (Diemaco L119A1) vltor flashhider....need an a2 TM AEG Stock (used this because there is no wabble at all) Saber L119A1 body G&P Triangle sight and gas tube G&P delta ring Madbull ambi charging handle latch (can't get a real one) Ambi selector More to come on this build, I have another upper with the Diemaco trades that I'm using for a C7 upper, once I get a lower I can strip and engrave, I'll be swapping the lowers on this thing and finishing the L119A1 to accuracy. Overall, this was fun....my very first GBBR Scratch build and With the exception of a couple deep detent holes that needed filing and a very problematic spring, It was fairly easy. One thing I discovered during this build is that there must be a graveyard of lowers with broken trigger guard tabs......I had to file out the holes to prevent breaking my second set (broke them on my other L119A1 kit) and ease the pin into place. Fuck...so I can't add more than one picture.....nice |
What's your threading? I have a old A2 flash hider I'm willing to contribute to your project if you cover shipping.
Also, those lower tabs are the bane of just about everybody... there's a bunch of threads on RS forums from guys who've broken their actual lowers by not supporting the tabs or forcing them recklessly. |

Are you building a C-7A2? Or C-8A2? How close are you trying to get it to the originals? I could provide some insight for authenticity.
BTW it's looking really good so far! |
Right now I'm trying to source a few other parts.
I've been working on this for about a year and a half lol. The build upon completion wil be: L119A1 lower with vltor clubfoot stock and change the raider grip to something like the umbrella corp ergo grip. CQB upper with suppressor as a barrel extension. This will be my indoor one. C8 FTHB lower ( engraved with proper trades, the ones above the trigger, the S, R, AUTO. ) Diemaco flat top heavy barrel upper (in pictures) with trades on barrel and upper. C7A1 lower (engraved like above) Diemaco flat top upper with full length OD handguards. |
I'm not usually a fan of minimalism, but damn, TC; that thing sure is purdy "). Where'd you source the trades? I have a shop to do the engraving but haven't been able to find more than bits and pieces on google images:s
|
Thanks, I should have had at least the paq on there lol
I have to dig it back up when I get my stripped lowers but it's a file for CNC. I saw that Imperial does good engravings. I need engraved though, not just aluminum oxide deep. I bought a few water decals for C7 and C8 a while back I may not end up using. |
So my M3X long version came along with my tester mag. Thank you VA!
So far, this thing has more recoil than my WETTI SCAR, it cycles great. For anyone who buys the sabre l119a1 body from huang, after a bit of filing, I found no major issues but the buffer tube fit. What is everyone's opinion of authenticity of what people call their rifles? Example: if I take an m16 with colt trades and paint the furniture green, how is that a C7? If I paint my M4 furniture green, maybe add a folding grip, how does that make it a C8? I struggle to find parts to build an authentic replica of a certain firearm but that's me. Comments? |
For me, it's all about the minor differences, and how close you get to them. If it requires a suspension of belief every time you look at it, then it's not a replica. I tend to look at the barrel... The barrel is the one constant despite how modified C7/C8s can get. At the end of the day... the C7/C8s are just minor variations on the AR-15.

Just got another SFW barrel today thanks to the cdn hoople...
L119A1 upper almost complete now. I would love to find an Army Code front sight for it, maybe an ACOG. Lower is complete minus the clubfoot stock I want for it. C8FTHB upper complete minus an optic of my fancy. Lower is inbound thanks to Venture. Attachment 36921 Obviously it's gonna be sanded out. It's okay to be jealous :) |
Ha! Yes yes they're a bit rough still. I'm gettin there. That british thing is the first and only to go up for sale once it's all finished, I'm never gonna have an SAS loadout so there's no point in keeping it.
From what I have so far, any suggestions? |
Cadex has an online store now. As far as I can see, you could order straight from them. http://cadexdefence.com/store/index....te=common/home
|
Those look great, I've been wanting to build a proper CF C8 for a while, and just looking at these makes me want to build one ever more.
|
Thanks man, wait until you see this in a month. The C8FTHB will be as accurate and complete as possible based off PPLI issued ones circa 90's-2000's

You can grab the Burnsed loop from Brownells, super fast and the loop is solid. Only glaring thing is the M3X is green and the A2 grip isn't green on the C8A3, else it's looking pretty awesome!
PS: Why is the barrel silverish? |
I'm painting the barrels and grip soon. I may leave the FTHB barrel the way it is though because it looks different in person.
Edit.couldn't find a double burnsed loop that looks right on brownells. |
