Thinking of buying a soft drink...

but lack any ability to make decisions for myself based on research..

what do you guys think?

coke? Pepsi? Mountain Dew?

or should I stick with tapwater?

reviews and Pics... if you got em..

also any pointers for how I should get out of my chair would be appreciated!

Well, now I guess this is going in the trash :(

first read the FAQ.

Second get age verified

Third go out to where people drink these drinks and ask for sips from their drinks so you can sample the different options (remember don't backwash in the drink you are sampling, that's just rude!)

Fourth, save up you pennies, nickles, dimes and quarters and don't waste your money on poor knock offs like RC Cola and the like. Remember you get what you pay for.

Is coffee a 'soft' drink?

Mountain Dew will just degrade your internals. Coke will probably cause something to dissolve and fall away. Pepsi is ok, though I'm partial to Dr. Pepper.

If you can find some Dr. Pepper or Canada Dry in country, you can't go wrong there.

As a new drinker, I've found this thread extremely useful. I'm going to do a bit more research before choosing, but it looks like Mountain Dew is the way to go.

Before I buy some I'd like to know about aftermarket upgrades for Mountain Dew. I'm planning on keeping it in the stock bottle with a tightbore straw. If you have any suggestions feel free to PM me.

I'm glad you asked actually. Mountain dew has such a vast array of upgrades its difficult to really steer you in the right direction. Just about anything they offer for the drink will benefit you in many ways. I personally use a highly upgraded sportsdrink bottle that has a pop cap that has melded springs installed in it for quick sipping action. It ejects enough mountain dew to satisfy your thirst craves that any other drink can't keep up.

well, mountain dew cans are usefull because they can be recycled to make a cool christmas tree.

Now Brian, I'd be careful with Brio, many people claim it's the foulest tasting concoction to ever be created, and a sin against all that tastes good, capable of ruining even the greatest of meals.

Although some do like it, it seems to be an aquired taste.

It's all about that Dr. Pepper. I've got high flow valves on mine for faster consumption of Dr. pepper goodness. I even have upgraded to metal bottle caps which makes it way nicer and hefty compared to that stock plastic crap threading tolerances will be bad if you get knockoff cheap crap like Safeway Select, NoName, or Presidents Choice but if you get high quality stuff the metal bottle caps will thread on usually with no problems but maybe require a bit of dremelling for fitment.

You can even upgrade it to hot Dr. Pepper.

Another one that's not as common is IrnBru which isn't for everyone, it's considered a classic and not popular with everyone and it's usually a bit more expensive than other options.

I recommend Dr. Pepper 23 Flavors where you can find it.

Actually, I would recommend that Chinese Sasaparilla drink that looks like Dr. Pepper, but a darker red.
Good luck finding it....I couldn't find it anywhere but at a T&T Supermarket lol.

Mountain Dew is good but not the greatest way to spend your money. In the US Mountain Dew is amazing but the Canadian version doesn't have caffeine which is a buying point for some.

Also, no advertising that you want to buy soda outside the Classifieds and AV only section I've reported your post. The sodas with caffeine are better but if you don't get AV you'll have to deal with the caffeine-less versions for now.

Hey guys, wow! I never knew there was so much variety.. now you guys got me thinking that maybe Mountain Dew is not the only option out there..

You know.. I have had the Walmart Water before... from the fountain just outside of McDonalds... and it turns out that they actually SELL soft drinks at McDonalds.. like direct to the public.. I had no idea this was even Legal??!!!

so yeah... but like I said.. Money is a little tight... and I don't like going outside much .. the sun hurts my eyes... so it would be a great help if you guys sent me more information on some of the other soft drinks out there..

I started with Fanta and have gone through 20,000+ bottles with no issues.

Sure, you can get some pop for cheaper, but you get what you pay for. Cheaper pop not only wreaks your internals, it's also overly greasy with crappy pot metal cans.

Me and a buddy both have Jones Soda on Facebook, we asked them directly about Bacon flavoured Jones... they said they had sent a shipment to Canada (didn't specify more than that) and that they had sold out pretty damn fast.

You're going to have to cross the boarder yourself and smuggle the stuff back.

And you're going to have to ensure you have at least 407 fizz bubbles per CM cubed or else CBSA might confiscate (and drink) your cargo.

Your best bet is to make your own. There are stuff you can buy out there to make it just the way you want, but we just can't tell you where to get them yet. You have to prove you're of drinkin' age y'see

first you need to decide what you want to drink even if you have no idea what it tastes like, and then you need to reject all suggestions to try something else because:
-the bottle is too heavy
-the packaging is not beautiful enough
-your front lawn's regulations stipulates that you need a side drink with no bubbles to go with it, in case atmospheric pressure makes the bubbles in your primary drink too dangerous.
-people in the west have it good but here in the east (Ontario) soft drinks are very difficult to come by and you can only drink what you chose.

I have a slightly different opinion, if this is your first soft drink then you may want to buy a lower cost one. That way of you find you don't like soft drinks and don't want to keep drinking them you won't have wasted alot of money.

If you are going to go for clearsoft-drinks, I would recommend the 'mentos' mod for any pepsi or coca-cola branded clearsoft-drink (lesser brands may not have the internals to withstand it).

My 2 litre pepsi can shoot up to 25 feet with the mod... It's not good on gas though... usually have to refill after one shot.

Most fields won't allow Mentos.

I think Ronan got some Pepsi up his nose and went home early once. Caused a whole shitstorm afterwards.

That's true if you use a slush drink type ice, but normal ice cubes won't cool it enough.

On the other hand, too much ice cubes will dilute the drink and then your FPS (Flavor per sips) will drop considerably. You need to gauge the ice you add carefully, I'd recommend talking to a popdoc (but not noodlord!)

A lot of people will use regular tap water but that's a mistake, smart people will upgrade to IceBastard branded Ice which is a good choice. But IMO ice made using Fiji water is the best I've found so far. It's a bit more specialized and expensive but it just can't be beat. It tastes so much better and makes your soft drink taste better too (not saying that IceBastard isn't already good high quality). Just don't reuse your Ice, it will make your soft drink taste off and the backwash that gets on it while in another drink will scratch up the inner lining of your straw.

Most people will settle with either Fiji water ice at most. I personally use IceBastard Ice.

most canadian stores try to rip you off when you buy pop if you know what you're doing you can just order some soda from the US... It's not like they're really gonna do anything at the border... i've had some american mountain dew shipped in. I had them label the box as "bottled drink" and it was no problem

What? Don't ruin it for the rest of us, we don't need any kind of publicity if you guys get caught by bylaw enforcement or even worse the police.

I hope you know that drinking in the public like that is just asking for trouble. At best you might get off with a $200 fine for a bylaw violation and possibly have your pop confiscated but at worst you could be shot by police if they confuse those opaque or metal soda cans as devices that criminals would use.

Don't drink next to your school, only do so where it's legal and zoned/allowed like paintball fields or outside city limits on large tracts of private land where city bylaws don't affect you and no one will pass by and see you guys drinking your pop.

Powerade/Gatorade for a good re-hydration drink. If you want pop on the other hand: Coca-Cola with sliced lemon.
If you wanna step it up, then try some of this: One of the best root beer I've had, it's very crisp especially ice cold.

Stewart's Root Beer is fantastic. Haven't had it in years though, picked up a couple bottles from the Duty Free coming back from the States years back... good stuff.

Pssht, what you need to drink is some Pocari Sweat; it's made in Japan so you know it's super reliable. They used to come only in opague plastic bottles, but now they're starting to come in full metal cans AND they have some limited amount of drinks being packaged in transparent bottles for import into Canada. Be warned though, once you drink this, you'll be turned into a super Elitist and people will get jealous of you.

I'll be the first to admit I'm still a bit new at drinking soda but I drink Dr. Pepper and after 300+ litres it hasn't failed me yet. I went with the 355ml cause I drink mostly in tight quarters. It's totally stock except I run a ready-pop system in case one runs dry and I'm still thirsty.

Possible, but if you upgrade in that way consider investing in padding, knees and elbows, also, always keep a spare liver close by, these things tend to brake first.
