Reveiw - Garrison Airsoft's KJW CQB-R!

Hey there, I noticed there wasn't a reveiw up for Garrison Airsoft or the KJW CQB-R's yet!

First off I'll start with the Garrison Airsoft review:

Communications were spot on! All my PM's and questions were answered in a very timely manner in a professional way!

The product arrived EXACTLY how it was supposed to, really quickly. The time from payment to tracking number was exceptional, all happened within less than 24 hours!

Business done like business should be!

Eeyore is a stand up guy and I would have NO problems dealing with him again in the future! I love my new toys :)

---------------------------------------------------------

Now onto the KJW CQB-R Reveiw!!

AWESOME.

These are my favorite GBB M4's!

Finish is nice -- not quite as matte as the WE line of GBBR's, but it it's certainly a robust feeling finish :)

Wonderful CQB-R and the wonderful couch from the 80's

Mmm blow back (excuse the water stains on the roof :( One of the upstairs plants decided it didn't want any water so it spilled through the hardwood.)

This thing was designed by Tanio Kobayashi, the grandfather of the modern Gas Blowback system.

I'm willing to bet these things are going to have a very bright future in Gas blowbacks. I was told by good friend in Japan (he works for one of the largest airsoft stores in Japan) that the First Factory (Prometheus, Layalx, Etc) are working on upgrades for this thing!

There have been quite a few reports from the UK where people have shot over 10,000 rounds through their gun straight out of the box and haven't had to replace anything yet.

RA-Tech along with Cradle Airsoft already has a bunch of upgrades to support the KJW/Tanio Koba platform.

This gun is great, I'm extremely satisfied with my purchase :)

I got the same one and I already cant wait to test it out outdoors. Do you know what magpul parts can fit this one? NICE gun by the way :D oh ya I love mine too hahaha

Amos September 18th, 2010 01:18

They take real-steel stocks and AEG front ends :)

Real-steel B.A.D. works with minor modification

cjboi September 18th, 2010 01:24

what about for grips? are they kjw proprietary?

Amos September 18th, 2010 02:21

Real steel, depending on the brand there's some minor filing involved.

Conker September 18th, 2010 02:25

I'd probably get one if they can finally release the STANAGs... can't stand these damn Thermolds.

sortie39 September 18th, 2010 03:07

how much is it??

cjboi September 18th, 2010 04:19

hey Amos, do you know if you can put magpul grips on these bad boys?

Skruface September 18th, 2010 10:04

Seeing as it's designed by Koba, does it have a TK twist barrel as standard? What are mag prices/availability like? Is velocity adjustable? If so, what's the range on adjustment?

Amos September 18th, 2010 11:47

Doesn't have the twist barrel as the velocities are in the 450+ range stock.

Mags are available -- but a little challenging to find right now (the factory is focusing on producing guns more than magazines at this moment)

RA-TECH and Cradle airsoft make velocity adjustment doodads and I'm not sure about range -- The only one I've fielded outdoors is a hand-cut down pink hello kitty one :)

cjboi September 18th, 2010 12:33

I would go RA TECH. I mean for cradle parts. I've seen some people breaking their bolt carrier because its hard to replace the piston inside it. With RA TECH all you have to do is adjust it with a hex key.

cjboi September 20th, 2010 09:57

hey Amos, if your doing any external upgrades for your gun. Can you post some pics here please :D Ill do the same when I get all my parts

piston=/=velocity adjuster....

I have a cradle velocity reducer, it works fine

Yes im pretty sure you have insights on how to install these upgrades. Some people dont and they break the bolt carrier. I'm not sure yet which FPS reducer I'll install on mine.

Amos September 20th, 2010 12:17

The RA-TECH stuff will be cheaper than ordering in Cradle stuff from the states :)

And yea -- it' a little challenging to install if you're new to gas-blowback systems... but it's something I'd say even TheNooblord could do properly :)

I'll help make up your mind:

Cradle stuff you need to disassemble your bolt and place different rings on a piece to adjust your FPS

the RA-TECH you stick a small key inside the bolt and adjust the FPS by essentially turning a screw.

As for external upgrades on one of these things... Here's one I built for a buddy of mine a few months ago:

I think you should copy it :)

I hope your buddy's a girl... lol
I prefer RA TECH npas kit as well, cheaper and easier to install. I don't recommend cradle velocity reducer for amateurs

Nice review! I would love to see them release an M16 version. Maybe with the front end AEG compatibility you can swith it? ^^

Amos September 21st, 2010 10:08

I can make whatever gun you want :)

And I've had my eyes on making a M16 version of one of these things!!

Amos September 21st, 2010 10:16

Lol that one started clear... but the minor improvements in the full metal ones rocket these things light years ahead of the clear lower ones :)

VooDooPeteK September 21st, 2010 10:24

For some odd reason I still want it lol

Amos September 21st, 2010 10:25

:) I'd love to make another one lol

VooDooPeteK September 21st, 2010 10:33

1.what was the cost of this to your door?

2. You mention in the OP about the 80's couch and the water damage on the ceiling. Well first I have the same couch so what you saying lol, second we know why the ceiling is still like that come on --> that time and money to fix it right away mean less airsoft toys and airsmithing for you.

seriously though I am not much into the gas rifles but have looked at the kjw for a bit thinking maybe I should pick it up just to say I have one and to tinker around with it at the local games.

just worried it will turn into a wall hanger as all the guys with gas rifles at our field seem to be selling them

Amos September 21st, 2010 11:06

I know of 4 people that run the KJ's as their primary :)

Out of the box they are hands down the most reliable GBBR.

Thenooblord September 21st, 2010 11:27

its not just he full metal ones either amos, Ive handled a Cansoft thats newer than mine and it had an improved piston head that doesnt look like it would crack as easily

StrikeFreedom September 21st, 2010 11:51

Are Thermolds more consistent/reliable than metal ones like WE?

Thenooblord September 21st, 2010 13:42

the thermolds are still metal, but its a different gun and system, so you really cant just compare the mags

The thermolds are a solid chunk of machined aluminum. The reason that they were chosen is because it allowed the inner gas reservoir to be larger without affecting the structural integrity of the magazine.

If you make one share pictures of it! ^^
