AI Tornado grenade sprays gas while filling + pin sticks

When I fill it, it sprays a whole bunch of gas out from the valve area. edit: it's also not getting a full fill.

And when I pull the pin, it will go out half way and then get stuck- really, really, really stuck.

Ideas? Am I doing something wrong? Anything I can do without taking it apart? I can't find a hex key that fits the screws yet.

I got one good throw out of it, at least. :) Pretty awesome.

How the hell do you get this thing apart? I'm trying to turn the top off clockwise, but there's no way it's coming off.

Am I doing something wrong?

That's the video I'm watching.... well I'll get a hammer out and see if I can get the turn started.

Linky

The video made it look way too easy. I had to take it out to the sidewalk, put one side of the pin on the cement and give the other side a few hits with a hammer to get it started.

And thats what we call voiding the warranty in the retail business.

Kid July 11th, 2010 22:24

Airsoft in Canada never has warranty.

The product is made in Canada, well probably not manufactured in Canada but the owner and operator of the business is.

Kid July 11th, 2010 22:37

So?

Edit: these threads are pretty rough... lots of metal shavings, too... I can see why it was so tight.

Kid July 11th, 2010 23:35

So, for anyone else who owns one, do they normally spray a whole load of gas out while filling?

As soon as I put the adapter on it just starts spraying out where it meets the valve. I don't know what the hell is going on, but my GBB mags never do this. Does it finish filling instantly?

Maybe I have a valve issue or something...

Is this a new impact grenade?

I have seen a few of these at the local field (recent purchases) that do not work properly, I would contact ASC and see what they say.

I know 4 people that have had to return them for a replacement so far.

What was not working? Curious as those are very simple and robust design.

I've noticed that using a Madbull metal propane adapter it leaked and never filled properly. I bought an AI propane adpater and everything has been great ever since.

Kid July 12th, 2010 01:06

I haven't had the pleasure of trying out the new impact nades.

This is one of the newest (v1.2) timer nades.

I'm using an AI v5 (tan plastic) adapter.

I have contacted Airsoft Innovations with this issue.

One question. Should the fill valve on the nade have a visible o-ring on the inside to make a seal between the brass valve and the propane adaptor, like on GBB mags? Mine doesn't have one.

voorhees -FWA- July 12th, 2010 01:17

no there's no o-ring on the fill valve.

umm yah there is... there is a small one on the inside and a larger one on the outside. With these I find that I need to soak my fill valve the night before or they piss gas. *soak on oil* also fill in short bursts or the valve will usually end up sticking. If its pissing gas while filling I normally rotate the bottom or the nade and that tends to great a better seal.

In short
yes Oring
Yes leaky when filling

PS I would snap you a pic but it appears that my fill valve is freaking stuck... ironicly I bet its the oring lol
PPS got the valve out. I apologize for the blurry pic but the oring at the tip of the tool sits around the fill valve.

he's talking about the external; where the adapter goes to fill the grenade. My 3 grenades don't have one EXTERNALLY... they all have one internally - that only makes sense...

Kid July 14th, 2010 01:08

Yup.

ah ok I thought you ment external as in on the outside of the fill valve... Not the outside of the nade. My bad.

i just picked up the Impact Grenade and posted the same question here. When filling i get a venting after a couple of short fill bursts. I am not sure if it's filled all the way and simply venting any over fill.. or if it's actually leaking right out of the box. .brand new ..

At first i used Green Gas with a metal nozzle and now i'm using the same Madbull metal Propane adapter.. both have caused this venting. Could it be the metal fill stems in these types of adapters?

Kos-Mos November 14th, 2012 22:02

I had a defective AI impact too. Maybe they got a bad batch of valves...

I have contacted AI before taking anything appart and they sent me a valve for free.

Also metal adapters break valves. Get the tan AI one, it works great.

The AI grenades fill from empty in about 2 seconds. It will spray a small cloud when full.

Make sure you have reset the shuttle, installed the pin/plug (timer version) and screwed the top properly before fill.

Also, you should not need to use anything but your hands to open/close the top threaded portion. It's not supposed to be on THAT tight.
