Barrie man nabbed for smuggling replica guns
36-year-old faces numerous charges
Updated 2 hours ago

Submitted by PoliceBarrie police, in corporation with Canadian border authorities, have arrested a local man for smuggling replica guns. Above, a few of the guns seized during the raid of a north end Barrie residence.

A 36-year-old Barrie man faces numerous charges for smuggling replica guns.

Authorities have seized 30 replica handguns, 15 long guns, and a number of accessories at a north-end residence.

The arrest was made following a lengthy investigation involving the Barrie police guns and gangs unit, with the assistance of the street crime unit , and the Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA).

pusangani May 12th, 2010 18:03

Wow, I wonder if he was on this board?

We'll see what Barrie member stops posting for a while after this...

Conker May 12th, 2010 18:04

Oh shit... that's bad.

That's definitely not some gangstashit, they wouldn't put Magpul stocks or PEQ15 on their guns... damn why going after a legitimate hobby? There's enough gangs in Toronto with REAL guns to go after...

13Fido13 May 12th, 2010 18:09

Anyone from Barrie know someone that fits that description?

Danke May 12th, 2010 18:14

I'll give them $100 for the PDW at the Police auction.

ShelledPants May 12th, 2010 18:15

Likely a collector. Probably had a relative shipping them up as "gifts".

I hope we get to hear the full story, though it will likely never happen.

The Chad May 12th, 2010 18:17

WOW.....another soccer mom win :(

Acid_Snake May 12th, 2010 18:25

e/ nvm

GZA May 12th, 2010 18:27

Shouldn't they be going after some real firearms, or more importantly some dope, instead of attacking our hobby?

aZn_triXta07 May 12th, 2010 18:30

I know it seems lame for authorities to be going after toy guns but there's a reason why Canadian Tire in the GTA had to stop selling pellet guns.

Lots of people were getting robbed, and back in 2004 before Toronto Police executed Project Impact a peace officer was shot in the ear with a pellet gun by a group of 12-14 year old kids who were all packing CT Pellet guns.

Not 100% sure why you edited out your post, but okay.
For those that remember, "Black Ops" had the exact same guns as pictured for sale at one point.. Low and behold, as of 1:20 earlier today he "Banana'd" them all.

Not pointing any fingers, but I think we can all add 1+1 = 2 in this case.

Sad to see another member of this community go, hope all works out.

Acid_Snake May 12th, 2010 18:42

I'll be honest I'm not 100% sure myself, but I'd rather not take chances, whatever those may be lol.

And by accessories, they must mean all the metal bodies he had...

Sad to see good AEGs go to waste : (

Conker May 12th, 2010 18:43

Well, not just the AEGs and GBBs, but more for the guy too... Hope he's able to sort everything out.

Drake May 12th, 2010 18:43

Ouch. Coincidentally age matches and he suddenly banana'd his thread.

R.I.T.Z May 12th, 2010 18:45

all i can say is that i saw this coming for a while,
i'm gonna remain neutral in this

Indeed. Glad to see our tax dollars hard at work to keep Toy guns off the streets *groan*

Kinda reminds me of an incident on the other coast a few years back. Just wonder if it involved a BFL or if it was just old fashioned cross boarder smuggling.

pusangani May 12th, 2010 18:51

Oh man the streets of Barrie are so much safer now that the local gangstas' gun supplier has been put out of commission

/sarcasm

H1TMAN May 12th, 2010 18:55

That the kind of news I dont like to see since im moving to the area of Barrie in July. I wonder what effect this will have on gaming in the area.

DuffMan May 12th, 2010 18:55

Oh yes, this is helpful. Quack like a duck more.

He was a good guy on the field, got nothing against him.

Hopefully, when he gets it sorted out, to see him on the field again someday.

[SIK] PiƩr May 12th, 2010 19:07

I guess this is what happens when you sell something to the wrong guy...

It's a shame.

Shirley May 12th, 2010 19:08

Mistakes do happen.. That's life.

Brian McIlmoyle May 12th, 2010 19:11

Cautionary Tale...

seems illegal smuggling.. and transfer of airsoft guns does result in Charges...

It is not at all helpful to rage against the police and CBSA for enforcing the law.

There are police and CBSA members right here... who are active players in this community.

First of all, this is how said items get into the country. People do this all the time, said person just got caught. BTW, this person in question has contributed positively towards the AS Community and is a Senior and well known member, more than I can say so of you. So I would shut the fuck up before bashing someone who you know nothing about.

I know, I was just stating one person messed up, and thats that.
I dont care how the guns get in country or how people get their guns, its not for me to judge.
I am not saying anything bad about them, I find it unfair that you are passing judgement on me for a comment.

Saint_blackhand May 12th, 2010 19:21

I sure hope he doesn't do anytime. I wish him the best of luck for beating these charges.

You stated "the rest of us are good guys" implying that said member isn't. Am I reading this wrong?

DanoftheDead May 12th, 2010 19:25

This is shitty news, I hope he beats the charges like Chris Brown beat Rihanna. <- thats my attempt to lighten the situation. I truly do hope that he beats the charges though. It sucks to read stuff like this.

yes you are, I was not implying anything about said member being a bad person.
My choice of words may have been poor. but I've met them and I've got no quarrel with them.

T_A_N_K May 12th, 2010 19:27

You can disregard the latter part of my previous statement then.

Since more than likely there will be legal proceedings from this, I ask that all speculations and assumptions whether you know to be fact or not to be kept to yourself. Also, no names please, I'm sure hes going through a though time as it is, no need to add gas to the fire.

And Im sure those active members agree that the LAW is the issue not those enforcing it. And thus we can agree that its a waste of tax payers money to have to enforce this LAW.

Can we agree on that?

pusangani May 12th, 2010 19:36

Let's all just sit back and wait for more factual information to become available before drawing any conclusions.

I know for a fact that smuggling carries criminal charges, I know 2 people personally that have had charges.

The transfer of guns is a different story, I have yet to hear of someone being charged with that, provided it was in a non-commercial setting

Let us wait for the man himself or someone closer to the source to speak up before assuming anything and panicing.

That's probably the best idea, speculation will only make the ASC soap opera worse.

Good luck scoob, hope it works out.

The last thing he should be doing is posting on a public forum. If he's obtained legal council they would have told him thus. Therefor your going to be waiting for quiet a while..

As for drawing conclusions I agree, all we know is that someone was charged with vague media definitions of "crimes" thusly no one should be making assumptions.

SnipersVenom May 12th, 2010 19:41

well all i can say is that i didnt post this to directly point out any member of the community as i dont now whoever the person is involved. it was more so to point out that we still need to be mindful of the rest of the population who are un informed about airsoft and this can be the end result. also i apologize if it is a member of this forum as i didnt intend to bring light to your situation in front of the community and cause more problems.

Edit *not directed at you* but a general question/comment

and posting speculation and opinions on a public forum is helping him out how?

Don't even get me started... I am a Licensed gun owner... So yeah... In my opinion the law is convoluted.. oppressive and in general stupid.

but it is none the less the law... currently

pusangani May 12th, 2010 19:44

Agreed, but waiting is better than speculating although not as fun I'd imagine.

The numbebr of bs theories and bogus facts that could come out of something like this is insane

Thus I recommend this thread should be locked until more legitimate information can be added, before this thing spreads like herpes.

13Fido13 May 12th, 2010 19:50

Agreed. Lock it.

It's sad to see these problems come to light.

i dont think this should be locked but monitered with maturity as this situation involves airsoft guns, the fallout of this incident could affect all of us in Barrie. The gun and gang unit here in Barrie are a joke, their a bunch of hot doggers without a clue, they bust a respeactable member of this community but the crack house on my street continues to operate even after I and numerous neiboughs called the police. I beleive I know who got busted and have done dealings with him in the past and he never tarnish the airsoft community with any hurtful actions, I wish him all the luck in beating this charge and would shoot with him anyday.
