I'd put the picture early to mid-80s. Rank is sewn onto the sleeve of his combats, soon after that it was sewn onto slipons and only worn on epaulets.

When I joined up in 2003, we still wore rank on the sleeves of our Combats.

Rank went from being on the shoulder to a slip on worn on the shoulder epaulets (85ish) back to being sewn on in the late 80's. There was a tab sewn on at the top of the shoulder with CANADA on it. That was switched to a OD (Service in Canada) Flag and a Red and White (Service overseas) Flag in the mid 80's.

Actually, who knows what is the helmet cover pattern? is that Mitchel "leaf"? looks like it is, and that is "summer"\desert side of it.
And what is the period of this photo?

What is the name of this flak vest?

That woud be mid 80's... Yes that's the Autumn side of the cover. He has the 82 patt web on. I'm gunna guess buddy is in Europe/Fall Ex or just rtn'd from there due to the red leaf.

As for the vest that's the early-mid 90's. Bosnia inspired. We we're wearing the old VN style into the early 90's.

One of the most famous CF pics ever:

I've found a video of that period...

Looking for the scanned pages of the book "Tangled Web" by Jack Summers - part about about 82 Pattern web gear. I would appreciate if someone could help me. It must be a good and interesting book for this subject. But too expensive to get it for me..

The guy I replaced behind the counter had left a bunch of kit in his locker...snowshoes, coveralls, bug bar, etc..and this gem;

Good gem :-)

I have bought almost the same last week. Is it double magazine pouches pack? It should be only mag 2 pouches, isn't it?

P.S. I would like to buy additional webbing..let me know if he will sell it by the normal price ;-)

It was OK to add extra pouches when you were outside the base. If you were on parade it was expected that everyone would look the same.

Double Tapper September 19th, 2009 11:17

The officers disliked that with me,I always wore my boot laces
straight across instead criss cross. The helmet you had shown
look just like my issue helmet 1990,if you find one like that
with two straps inside it was a para helmet.

Luckily that is changing now :p

But yes Tex, normally two magazine pouches would be worn.
